Yes! It's definitely a good one for breaking into knit garments, and you can always ask questions via email or in our Facebook group if you need assistance!

Thanks for the info! That was exactly what I needed to know. And I always appreciate your demonstrations of how different fabric types affect the shape and fit of the same garment; the updated Union St. post was also extremely helpful. I hope you and your family had a lovely Thanksgiving!

Good question! French terry has small loops on the wrong side, like regular terry, and sweatshirting has fleece on the wrong side. In general, French terry is lighter in weight and has more drape. Sweatshirting often has little to no stretch, whereas FT almost always has stretch, sometimes over 100%. However, both types of fabric can be composed of different substrates, which drastically changes their weight and hand. They can be made with cotton, poly, rayon, spandex, etc. In general I wouldn't recommend sweatshirting for this pattern unless it was very lightweight and had spandex.

Another winner! I love all of the options, and I've always favored a bishop sleeve. One thing I've been wondering - what are the differences between french terry and sweatshirting? Or are they essentially the same thing (smooth face with "fluffy" back)? I'd be interested to hear what other people think, especially those who have sewed with both fabrics.
